Facebook Crowd Wisdom: Bourne Legacy Movie

The Bourne Legacy

The other day, I posed this question on Facebook: A ‘Bourne Legacy’ without Matt Damon, win or fail?

It’s an interesting question because Matt Damon who starred in the previous 3 Bourne movies will not be starring in this one. ‘The Bourne Legacy’ ( August 2012) is directed by Tony Gilroy based on the bestseller Bourne series by Robert Ludlum and Eric Van Lustbader. Cast includes Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, and Edward Norton.

This is also my first post on Facebook Crowd Wisdom (FBCW) that I’m going to be featuring here regularly on this blog. Every 2 days or so, I will be posing a question on Facebook and will blog about the responses that I will get from FB friends.

Here’s a preview of what’s to come.

“A ‘Bourne Legacy’ without Matt Damon, win or fail?”

Here are the answers:

It looks like we’re evenly split with the answers here. I’m thinking it will still be a win based on the powerhouse cast and the veteran director. Here’s the trailer, see for yourself:

Feeling Good On Twitter

Yesterday, I tweeted about this article on Search Engine People called ’18 Best Practices To A Traffic Driving Twitter Account’ by Rana Shahbaz.

It got retweeted by about 20 friends from Empire Avenue, and here’s the response I got from the author:

Messages like this and the feeling that you’re making connections with real people out there are what make it all worth it.

Take The Time To…

Take time to...

A friend on Empire Avenue, Richard Blaquiere (e)VNO, shared this little poem yesterday and I think there’s more wisdom packed into these few lines than some worthless volumes out there. Enjoy…

Take Time To…

Take time to Think…
it is the source of power.
Take time to Play…
it is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to read…
it is the fountain of wisdom.
Take time to Pray…
it is the greatest power on earth.
Take time to give…
It is too short a day to be selfish.

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

I’ve always been a fan of Dr. Stephen Covey and his classic book on personal effectiveness “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People.” While looking at my stats on some slides I posted at Authorstream, I came across these excellent Powerpoint presentations summarizing the basic principles outlined in the book. I just wanted to share this with you today.

I don’t know what went wrong, but it appears I couldn’t embed the 7 Habits slides from Authorstream, I searched for a video on YouTube and this is the closest to a good summary that I could find. Enjoy

New Ticker And Avatar On Empire Avenue

Emmanuel Gonot on Empire Avenue

Changed my profile avatar and ticker name to (e)PINOY on Empire Avenue yesterday to celebrate my membership to the Century Club. Seems to have done a lot of good — more buys and new connections from among my fellow Pinoys on the Avenue. What do you think?

My Social Media Goals For 2012

Social Media Goals 2012I’d like to tell you about my 2012 social media goals today.

Yes, it’s already February and as with many things in my life these days, I’ve kept postponing doing this since December.

Heck, I should have set out these targets before I plunged into the high speed lanes on Empire Avenue.

But, as they say, it’s never too late to do a good thing, so here goes.

PEOPLE

I am of the opinion that networking in social media is all about people and relationships not numbers.

My most important goal is to develop a core group of about 30 to 50 reliable individuals that I can truly call as my own tribe on the web and with whom I can establish strong ties that go beyond the latest shiny objects on the social media sphere.

These are people with whom I can exchange RTs on Twitter everyday, exchange likes and comments on Facebook, exchange recommendations and comments on LinkedIn — all without the need to launch missions on EAv.

Many of these individuals will probably be search consultants or social media marketers themselves and thus not prospective clients. But, here’s the thing. The way I see it is that we’re going to be mutual ‘enablers’ within this core group.

They will allow me to magnify and extend my reach in their own spheres of influence just as I will also be their enabler helping them reach individuals in my own circles who might turn out to be members of their target markets or niches.

QUANTITY

There are those, however,  who are enamored with numbers — including, alas, those that I need to impress. Thus, I’m also aiming to rack up the numbers on the leading platforms.

Ironically, this actually seems to be the easiest part. The hardest I think is to find and develop mutually beneficial connections with those 50 people I described above.

Here are my goals on some of the leading social media sites. By December 31, 2012, I will have:

  • 10,000 Followers on Twitter (3,430 as of this writing)
  • 1,000 Fans on my Facebook Page (now 82)
  • 500 Friends on Facebook Profile (currently 107)
  • 500 Connections on Linked In (54 now)
  • A Score of 70 on Klout (now at 58)

I haven’t really thought out my strategies on YouTube and Flickr, I will update this page once I have set my goals for these sites.

EMPIRE AVENUE

This goals page wouldn’t be complete without including my Empire Avenue objectives. These are pretty simple and straightforward:

  • Share price: 150e
  • Total Wealth: 50 million Eaves (now 4.6 mil)
  • Dividend per share to stock price ratio: 1 percent

I’m setting my share price goal at a modest 150e (currently at 95e) as I’m not really sure there’s any value to a high share price. I’m still convinced that wealth and income — that will finance those missions — are more important in the avenue equation.

So, there you have it. My social media goals for 2012.

Why am I making these public? Well, there’s no motivation as potent as a publicly stated goal. Since you’re aware of these goals and in a way, are holding me accountable to these, the last thing I want is to fall flat on my face in front of all of you by the end of the year.

Report To My Shareholders on Empire Avenue – January 2012

Shareholder's Report on Empire AvenueDear all:

Today marks one full month since I started playing the game and I’m happy to report that:

My SHARE PRICE has now reached 92e per share and I’m on track to join the Century Club in two weeks or less.

Your DIVIDEND as of yesterday 30 January 2012 has now reached 0.96e per share. I have achieved the goal I have outlined to you in my letter 3 weeks ago about achieving a 1% dividend ratio (compared to share price).

Total assets have now reached 4.2 million and I’m positive I can reach 8 mil by the end of February.

DIVIDEND EARNINGS from my own investments is now at 31K eaves per day making it possible for me to launch 3 small missions directed to Twitter, Facebook profile and Facebook page. These missions are instrumental in achieving higher grades (higher dividend for you) for these sites.

I owe you all a BIG THANK YOU, I’ve reached these significant milestones because of your support.

Thank you!

Beyond the game, please feel free to connect with me on the other sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, I would love to network with you.

Sincerely,

Emmanuel Gonot

Switching Facebook Profiles On Empire Avenue and Klout

switching Facebook profiles on Klout and Empire AvenueI’ve been planning to do it for 6 months now — create separate Facebook profiles, one for family and personal friends and another one for business contacts. I finally made the switch last Monday and connected the new profile to Empire Avenue and to Klout.

No effect on Klout so far, I suspect they don’t update their information as frequently as Empire Avenue.

On, EAv, the effect was almost immediate as soon as I stopped activities on the old profile — my share price dropped by .45e which caused a bit of panic selling — I ended up with a deficit of 1.45e.

I had a feeling there will be more selling the next day if I didn’t do something. After considering the options, I removed the old profile from EAv and connected the new one which has only about 50+ friends. I then made 25 posts on SEO, social media, and some humorous pics on the profile. Finally, I launched an EAv mission (number 3) inviting people to like the posts and leave a few comments.

Altogether, I got about 20 new friends, 350 likes, and 35 comments from the mission. I didn’t bother to see the conversion rate, I just wanted some good numbers to boost the profile’s grades with EAv.

The result of this was that the profile got a grade of 44 and I recovered the lost 1.45e and made a net gain of 2.45e which made the share price climb to more than 85e for the first time.

Takeaway lesson from this is the ranking can be influenced for as long as you have the eaves to launch missions. While I’m strongly working to network with many of the my new friends on the site and on all the other platforms, I’m convinced that a weekly or biweekly mission directed to each of the connected networks can really do a lot of good to the share price and dividends.

Eaves and plenty of it, that’s the ticket. At 2.3 million after 15 days of playing, I’m on track I think to reach 50 million by the end of the year. That should make for a hefty war chest to launch all those missions.
